Absalom Adams was born about 1737 in Virginia. He died before November 15, 1841, in
Chambers County, Alabama. (Alabama Patriots Searchable Database, 2026) 6 He did not fight
during the revolution, but he formally supported the Patriot cause. The Magazine of Virginia
Genealogy (Vol. 23, p. 7) identifies him as having rendered “patriotic service” by taking an oath
of allegiance during the American Revolutionary War. (Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, 1983) 7
Such oaths were a significant requirement in Revolutionary Virginia, serving as a public
declaration of loyalty to the American cause and a renunciation of allegiance to the British
Crown. Individuals who took these oaths could be recognized for patriotic service, particularly
when they supported local governance, supplied goods, or otherwise aided the revolutionary
effort without serving in a combat role. The location of his gravesite is unknown.
The Sons of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-partisan, organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American History, and teaching our History to future generations.
